Welcome to sixth grade! 08/21/2017 Upcoming, Important Dates: Add these dates to your agenda, if they apply to you: Monday (08/21) – Solar Eclipse – VIEWED on TV – School dismissal at 5:00 Tuesday (08/22) – Technology Club Meeting 8:00 a.m. – Robotics Club Meeting 4:30 p.m. Wednesday (08/23) – Track Club – Parent Mtg. 6:00 p.m. Thursday (08/24) – Open House/Curriculum Night 6:00 p.m. - SRI # 1 – Business Lab Friday (08/25) – Floyd spirit wear & jeans day - SRI # 1 (Continued) Go get your breakfast NOW. Do not wait. Turn in any signed paperwork to the 7th period bin. If you are not eating, you must read something of your choice. HOMEROOM = SILENCE

Language Arts – Warm Up 08/21/17 SpringBoard First, read and answer questions 1-3 on page 14 based on the book you have chosen to read independently. You must use complete sentences! You have either checked out a book from the L.M.C. or our classroom. Then, complete questions 4-6 on page 14. Complete parts of the “Notes for Reading Independently” in your Reading Portfolio. If you finish early, return to pages 10-11 and complete questions 1-8.

Language Arts – Work Session 08/21/17 Essential Question: How can change be significant? What makes a good story? Standard: ELASE6RL2 – Determine a theme or central idea of a text and how it is conveyed through particular details; provide a summary of the text distinct from personal opinions or judgments. Learning Targets: Define the concept of change through the reading of a narrative. Apply understanding of narrative elements to reading and writing.

Language Arts – Work Session 08/21/17 Mini. Book Talk Now that you have finished answering questions 1-6 on page 14, take turns at your table discussing your responses with your tablemates. Each person must speak about their book. If you finish early, return to pages 10-11 and complete questions 1-8. If you are finished with S.B. pages 10-11 and 14, you must read.

Language Arts – Closing Session 08/21/17 Independent Reading First, you must finish S.B. pages 10-11 and 14. As you read, you should add to your “Notes for Independent Reading” chart within your Reading Portfolio. Also while you read, I will call individuals up to my desk to show me the following completed pages within SpringBoard; Page 4 (The two E.Q.s and Unpacking the Embedded Assessment #1) Pages 10-11 (Questions 1-8)
