3 Types of Chemical Bonds Ionic Covalent Metallic What can you describe about each of these bonds just by looking at the name?

IONIC BONDS Form when metals bond with non-metals Involve the transfer of valance electrons from metal atom to the non metal atom -Sodium (Na) has 1 valance electron. Calcium has 7 valance electrons. They combine to make 8 valance electrons. -Since sodium lost an electron it becomes positive -Since Calcium gained an electron, it becomes negative Example - Sodium Chloride (NaCl)

COVALENT BOND Form when non metals bond to non metals. The atoms share electrons to add up to 8. Flourine atoms have 7 valance electrons. They get together and share 1 with each other so they both have 8. They don’t give the electron away like in ionic bonds

how the electrons do not just stay with one ion Metallic Bond Occurs between atoms of metals . The electrons move freely from one atom to the next The movement of electrons in metallic bonds explains electric conductivity of metals.
