Forecast verification at the Meteorological and Hydrological Service of Croatia Lovro Kalin

Forecasting Department cca 15 forecasters daily shifts (5-19 h) Various customers: Government, Civil Protection, Media: TV, radio, newspapers, web Special customers: Electric company, Road Service, Railways, Fire Protection, Water Management etc. Short to long range (nowcasting to seasonal)

Verification section Goal mainly to verify Department’s forecast Also models (ECMWF, Aladin) Point-to-point method (usually synop data against nearest grid point of the model) Operational and on-demand (seasonal, annual) Annual report for the ECMWF “Green Book”
