Let the adventures begin- A journey through our world ENGLISH As Writers, we will begin by reading a variety of poems by various authors including ‘The Magic Box by Kit Wright. We will look at rhyming poems, repetitive poems and shapes poems and create our own versions of each. Later in the term we shall move onto non-fiction writing with the aim of creating our own information book about dragons. We shall study dragons in many contexts, create our own dragon character and write a story about it using, ‘Tell me a Dragon’ by Jackie Morris as our inspiration. MATHEMATICS As Mathematicians, we will be developing our knowledge of counting in 2’s as well as understanding the multiplication and division facts which match. We will continue looking at Addition and subtraction of 2 digit numbers and we will use concrete objects and various pictorial and written methods to solve number problems relating to this. Later in the term we will begin to look at multiplication and division using our knowledge of this to solve worded problems. Finally, we will study shapes and apply our knowledge to create repeating Christmas patterns. READING As Readers, we will be looking at a range of fiction and non-fiction texts linked to our topic. We will be developing our inference skills as a means of gaining a deeper understanding of the texts we are reading. Let the adventures begin- A journey through our world Year 2 Term 2 HISTORY As Historians, we shall be studying key figures in history and will look closely at ‘The Great Fire of London’. We will learn about Samuel Peeps and understand why his diary was important in our understanding of what exactly happened in Pudding Lane. We will then research Christopher Wren and his involvement his the rebuilding of large parts of London. We will pretend to be King Charles II and write an order for how it should be rebuilt P.E (Friday) As Athletes, we will be dancing. We will work with a partner to create movement to a stimuli to create a short dance piece to perform to an audience Please ensure that your child has a full PE kit including trainers. Children will be completing lessons outside if the weather is fine. DT As Designers, we will research Christmas stocking in order to understand where the idea was created. We will then design and make our own mini stockings. SCIENCE As Scientists, we will continue to learn about habitats and living things. We will make close observations of a micro-habitat and the creatures that live there, investigating conditions and how they affect the minibeasts found within them. We shall answer questions about why animals survive in certain habitats and not others. We shall then explore food chains and think about how these can be affected by changes in a habitat. GEOGRAPHY As Geographers, we will take a close look at the UK. We will begin to identify the continents, focusing on Europe then zoom in to identifying the countries and capital cities of the UK. We shall identify characteristics of the four countries of the UK and identify the cities and seas surrounding it. Later, we shall use our maths knowledge of compass point and apply this to describe locations. ART As Artists, we will be studying the work of Auguste Rodin and will create our own hand sculptures which show a feeling. We shall be working on our drawing technique to draw and improve a picture of a given animal. We shall also be working with shade and colour mixing to create movement in our paintings. Computing As Computer technicians, we will continue to use the system to record survey findings on tables, pictograms and bar charts.
