empowering service users Blue Salmon - empowering service users Jeremy Swain 17 June 2008

Outcomes Star – evidencing the impact Internal journey Living skills Substance Use ETE Accommodation Social networks Physical health Emotional and mental health

Blue Salmon challenges Hands on even more power to the service user Integration into existing case management framework Requires the staff member to give up more of themselves Makes greater demands through the sheer ambition of the objectives

How strong is your contact and support with family and friends? I have a lot of contact with family and friends I have quite a lot of contact with family and friends I have some contact with family and friends I have little or no contact with family and friends I’m not sure

To what extent does Thames Reach help you to have the contact you want with family and friends? Very much Quite a lot A bit Hardly or not at all I’m not sure

Thames Reach weaknesses Patchy at being able to motivate and inspire Paternalistic – ‘poverty of expectation’ Limited joint working with others Inconsistent in our approach ….and there is one service we can’t bring ourselves to develop……….

Next steps Revolutionise approach to casework management Getting more people into work Bring families into Thames Reach as significant stakeholders
