Why Slaves Were Needed? -slavework is cheap -with the invention of the cotton gin more slaves were used -South Americas economy was mainly based on cotton
Where Are The Slaves From? From West- to South Africa
Where Are The Slaves From? -Sometimes the Americens bought them for money or they hunted them like wild animals -Taken by ship to America -the conditions on the passege were very poor and many slaves died on the ships
What Happened Then? -Slaves were send to the field or to the market ●there were public sales for slaves -slaves were sold like tools with no concerns for families, relatives, age
Slaverights ●practically none -a black person (African American) is considered to be a slave ●a few were free, but even then had a very low status
(Einschränkung) -in some states it was forbidden to teach slaves how to read -often they were not allowed to have guns -slaves could not testify (aussagen) against white people
Rights of Slaveholders -slaveholders were sometimes limited (e.g. beating slaves to extreme) but often could not be found guilty because of missing witnesses
