Morning Worship Wednesday 12th December Christingle – Light of the world Celebrating 50 years of Christingle Bishop Justus Church of England School

Let the light of Christ shine in our lives Gather The Lord be with you And also with you Let the light of Christ shine in our lives

Receive When Jesus saw the disciples keeping the children away, he was indignant and said to them, ‘Let the little children come to me; do not stop them; for it is to such as these that the kingdom of God belongs. Truly I tell you, whoever does not receive the kingdom of God as a little child will never enter it.’ And he took them up in his arms, laid his hands on them, and blessed them. From the Gospel according to Mark, chapter 10, verses 14 to 16

Engage A Christingle is a symbolic object used in the Advent services of many Christian denominations. Christingle means 'Christ Light' and is used to celebrate Jesus Christ as the "Light of the World“. •The orange represents the world •The red ribbon (or tape) symbolises the love and blood of Christ •The sweets and dried fruit represent all of God’s creations •The lit candle represents Jesus’s light in the world, bringing hope to people living in darkness This year marks the 50th anniversary since the first Christingle was held in this country.

Engage Some discussion ideas … Why do you think Jesus said that people need to ‘receive the Kingdom of God as a child’? What is special about a young child? Activity suggestion … Many churches support The Children’s Society at Christingle Services. Find out more about this charity. Respond Amen Loving Lord, we thank you for the light in our lives, for those who give us love and hope. We thank you for The Children’s Society as it brings light to children and young people who feel unloved or without hope. Help us always to be a light shining in the darkness so that we can share the love of God with those around us. In the name of Jesus Christ, the light of the world. Amen

Go out into the world with the light of Christ Let us bless the Lord Thanks be to God Go out into the world with the light of Christ
