21st Century Accreditation - the 5 R’s

Relationships Inclusion of all stakeholders. Staff, Students, Families, and Communities. All those involved in educating every learner.

Responsive Culture Purposefully creating a climate (classroom, school, district, community) that nurtures every student to make good choices to learn and grow. Encompasses Leadership, Early Childhood, School Climate, Nutrition and Wellness, and Innovation. Honors diversity, promotes innovation and curiosity, provides differentiated instruction, develops global competence in students, and supports healthy life choices.

Relevance Providing a curriculum based on Kansas College and Career Ready Standards and 21st Century learning. Encompasses Curriculum, Instruction, Student Engagement, and Technology. Access to technology and resources. Opportunities to apply learning outside the classroom and school walls.

Rigor Setting high expectations to ensure the acquisition of the KCCRS. Includes career and technical education, accelerated learning, and/or supports accommodations. 21st Century learning woven throughout. Encompasses Career and Technical Education, Professional Learning, Resources, and Data.

Results Achievement Data, Growth in Student Achievement, Reduced Gaps in Achievement, and Other Measures. Annual Measurable Objectives (AMOs) as outlined in the ESEA Waiver (2012) Goal for every district in the State of Kansas is to achieve 21st Century accreditation and… All students to be college and career ready upon graduation from a Kansas high school.
