Knowledge Organiser: Year 11 Services for children and adults with specific needs. THESE INCLUDE; Learning disabilities. Sensory impairments (sight and hearing) Long-term health issues. May struggle with day to day tasks e.g. personal care, household tasks, managing money. Mild learning disability – can live independently Severe learning disability- may need 24 hour care. Also available are; Supported living schemes Day centres Nursing care homes. Services for children and young people. REASONS FOR NEEDING SUPPORT. May be temporary or permanent. Parent or carer is sick. Family relate problems, relationship breakdown. Behavioural issues or profound additional needs. TYPES OF SUPPORT. Foster care. Foster care provides a stable family life in a safe environment. May be short term or can lead to adoption, residential care or independent living. Residential care. Provides a high quality of care For children and young adults with complex needs. Support given by trained carers and educational staff. Youth work. Support young people between ages 11-25. Helps young people to build skill such as; Exploring their identity Decision making Problem solving Building confidence Improving communication. Respite care. Provides support from trained carers for families and carer to give them relief for a short period of time. Can take place in the persons home or in the residential care home. Domiciliary care Takes place in the home usually personal care or specialised care. e.g. nasogastric feeding tube.
