Mendel’s Theory.  Mendel correctly concluded from his experiments that each pea plant has two separate “heritable factor” for each trait – one from each.

Mitosis vs. Meiosis. What is the difference Mitosis is asexual reproduction. Does not produce a new organism. Mitosis is asexual reproduction. Does not.

MEIOSIS NOTES.
MEIOSIS Meiosis is the type of cell division by which germ cells (egg and sperm) are produced. Meiosis involves a reduction in the amount of genetic material.

Genetics Notes

Law of Segregation                i.      Mendel didn’t know about chromosomes and genes or meiosis       ii.      But figured out that there was some factor for each trait 1.    T vs. t 2.    Mendel figured a hybrid had both Tt, but during gamete formation they separated and recombined in fertilization 3.    This concept is the LAW OF SEGREGATION

Law of Segregation

Law of Independent Assortment .      Different traits are inherited independently (separately) of one another

Incomplete Dominance i. Both alleles contribute to phenotype   ii.      Mixing of parental traits 1.    ex.  Four O’Clock Flower a.     Red x White = Pink

Meiosis Meiosis is a process where a single cell divides twice to produce four cells containing half the original amount of genetic information. These cells are our sex cells – sperm in males, eggs in females. Haploid: 1 set of chromosomes Diploid: 2 sets of chromosomes

Mitosis Meiosis How many cells are produced? Haploid or Diploid Sexual or Asexual Cells the same or different? Check the one that exchanges genetic material. How many rounds of division? 1 or 2 Check the one that is an exact copy of itself. Tell me one thing that they have in common.
