The Making of a Refugee

The Church is a Place for Spiritual Refugees It is a kingdom sinners come to when they realize they have no hope in this world. Eph. 2:11-12 It is a Family for the outcasts of this world. Eph. 2:19

The Church is to Welcome Spiritual Refugees The church receives whom the Lord calls. Further, the church calls those to become refugees of the world. Matt. 28:19

A CHURCH PROBLEM: When a Christian feels displaced WITHIN the church

Feelings for Displacement Genuine/legitimate feeling. Feeling unwanted/unloved/left out. Questions legitimacy of the church Questions legitimacy of Christianity

Reasons for Displacement By Person By Others Guilt PAST SINS Condemnation Left Out DOESN’T FIT IN Not included Culture Purposeful Interests Unintentional Maturity/Immaturity Doesn’t know how to be inclusive Etc.

Addressing Displacement: Both Sides Extend Love to one another. 1 Cor. 13:4ff Preferring one another. Phil. 2:3-4 Strive for understanding: the need for dialogue (starting with this sermon) Pray for one another.
