Sukkot by Kira Loshin

What Makes a Sukkah Kosher? A sukkah must be built under the sky A sukkah must measure at least seven tefachim long by seven tefachim wide. The s’chach must not be higher than 20 amot from the floor of the succah.

S'chach The torah says that s’chach must be: Vegetation Detachable from the ground Incapable of being tamei

Sukkah Walls A sukkah may be kosher even if it has less than 3 walls A sukkah should have: 3 Incomplete Walls 4 Complete Walls 3 Complete Walls, 1 Incomplete 3 Complete Walls

Sukkot Why do we celebrate sukkot for eight days and people in Israel seven days? - Because in the olden days there were three judges and when there was a full moon they would tell a judge and light a bonfire. When the neighbor city saw the bonfire they lit a bonfire too . A couple weeks later when all of Israel knew about the full moon, some people got on a boat to tell the rest of the Jewish world. But, by the time it got here they didn’t know what day the full moon was on. So, since they didn’t know the right day for Sukkot they celebrated the two possible days instead of one day. Bonfire

Ushpizin Aharon Yosef We invite seven guests (the Ushpizin) to our sukkah They are: - Avraham - Moshe - Yitzchak - - Yaacov - King David - Aharon Yosef
