Welcome To The Amazing World of Industry 4.0 Beachborough Inspiration for Innovation Event 7th February 2019 Welcome To The Amazing World of Industry 4.0 Career Speed Networking events involve a range of volunteers coming together to chat to groups of young children about their jobs. The aim is to introduce young people to a wide range of jobs that are available to them, broadening their horizons and encouraging them to aim high. The format is that the business professional sits on a table with 7-8 young people. These young people have an allocated period of time to ask the professional as many questions about her/his job/career path etc. Once the time has finished the professional will move onto the next table. This process continues until the event time is reached. It is recommended that the business professional prepares a short speech to summarise key elements of their work, work history, and education. It is also recommended that visual aids be used, such as iPads showing pictures or perhaps some tools or equipment they can hold/feel. The young people will be prepared for this event in advance. They will be provided with a short biography of all the business professionals involved and a sample sheet of questions they could consider asking. The biography and sample questions sheet will also be available on each table on the day. Please be ready to answer questions on any subject as young people are not predictable. At one event we ran in Oxford a pupil asked a volunteer if they had met the queen! You may also be asked what your salary is. Whilst we would prefer you to answer this as openly and honestly as you can we understand this can be a sensitive subject, so it is suggested that you could either state a pay range or explain what your salary enables you to buy. Some young people are more eager to learn than others, some more outgoing, some more cheeky but all want to hear your story. A warm friendly smile will help put those children who are awkward in social situations at ease.
