EFFECTS OF SEA LEVEL RISE WATER & SEWER CONSIDERATIONS BRUNSWICK-GLYNN JOINT WATER SEWER COMMISSION EFFECTS OF SEA LEVEL RISE WATER & SEWER CONSIDERATIONS January 22, 2019

Impact Issues Timing and speed of sea level rise SSI access in general with causeway issues Topography which impacts flooding areas Access to inhabited areas & access to W&S assets Potential Sea barriers to slow the impact Cost considerations for the efforts associated with maintaining service in affected areas

JWSC Approach JWSC will map areas of concern based on flood prediction maps Tentative Plans can be made in coordination with City officials, County officials and other utilities serving our area Once impacts begin to inhabited areas and/or access, tentative plans will be modified for facts on the ground The plan will be to continue service for sure in unaffected areas

Conclusions Once certain core buried “backbone” assets are impacted some seemingly unaffected areas may lose service Temporary barriers may be a possibility to keep service somewhat longer in the affected areas Cost-benefit analyses must be made to determine where the battle lines are drawn to mitigate coastal flooding Ultimately some service areas will be lost if the flooding occurs
