MC Practice KEY ____ C D B A b

Writing Prompt 1.) Thesis/Claim: In one sentence, state which article is more reliable and WHY. “The effects of Instagram on Self- Esteem and Life Satisfaction” is a more reliable source for research than “8 Smart Uses of Instagram” because _____________________, ______________________, and __________________________ . 2.) Brief Summary/Background: Tell me briefly what the articles are about. - Both articles discussed the effects that using Instagram can have on a person. While ‘8 Uses’ made some interesting points, ‘The effects’ delved deeper into the psychological effects. Write a paragraph explaining which of the two articles is a more valid and reliable source to cite in a research-based argument. Be sure to support your CLAIM with at least three pieces of evidence.

Outline Continued 1.) Thesis/Claim: In one sentence, state which article is more reliable and WHY. 2.) Background summary: Tell me briefly what the articles are about. 3.) Lead-in to the first quotation/paraphrase: Don’t forget CONTEXT! “For example, at the beginning of Article 2, the author lists her credentials after her name and the title of the source. According to this information, she is an award winning Journalist, and doctor of psychology.” 4.) Analysis of evidence 1 – HOW does this example make the source more reliable for the researcher? “Knowing that the person writing this article has the highest level of education in her field reassures the reader that the information is presented by an experienced expert, and is therefore, more reliable. She also has won awards for journalism, which likely means she has been recognized for not only the content of her writing, but her credibility as a journalist, allowing the reader to trust the information even more.” 5.) Lead-in to second quotation/paraphrase 6.) Analysis of evidence 2 – HOW does this example make the source more reliable for the researcher? 7.) Lead-in to third quotation/paraphrase 8.) Analysis of evidence 3 – HOW does this example make the source more reliable for the researcher? 9.) Concluding Statement – restate claim

What should I expect on my benchmark? 10 multiple choice questions related to the reliability of two separate sources 1 writing prompt that asks you to answer which source is more reliable, and WHY, providing three pieces of evidence
