Team Leader Training 2018-2019

General Judging Points Recruit Team Members Bring Team member list Community Judges will be added to your team Paper with what to do when- on clip board for team leaders Final Number of Projects by category Please wear name tag at all times while judging Dress Appropriately Careful with paperwork Careful with conversations Do not ask personal questions Conflict of Interest Okay if school/ name is on project Sign/comment/initial project Hang Tag For categories with large number of projects- Start from each end of tables Participants get better with each interview Turn in paperwork to coordinator at front office in a timely manner, especially forms with quick turn-around requirement

General Schedule Thursday 12:30 PM Mandatory Judge Meeting for all judges Organization for Judging Move Projects Projects may be in the wrong category Preliminary judging of boards and papers 7:00 PM Nominations due for Best Papers Display team can begin judging for the best designed board

San Luis Valley Regional Science Fair 2019 Judge Ethics Statement & Sign-in Sheet You will be asked to read and sign a statement (below) upon arrival I hereby acknowledge that by signing this form, I agree to serve as a judge for the San Luis Valley Regional Science Fair. I agree to act in a positive and ethical manner in which each student encountered is treated fairly and respectfully. Privileged information or ideas that are obtained through my volunteer service will be kept confidential by me and I will not use such information or ideas nor disclose such information or ideas to third parties. I agree to disclose any conflicts, potential conflicts, perceived conflicts, and perceived conflicts of interest resulting from direct competitive, collaborative or other relationships with any of the students and to recuse myself from judging in such circumstances. I agree to decline and report any offer of payment or other consideration of value. I agree to report and refrain from harassment of any person for any reason including, but not limiting to: age, national origin, race, color religion, gender, sexual orientation, marital status, disability, ancestry and/or veteran status and understand the SLVRSF responsibly to investigate such claims. I agree to notify the SLVRSF immediately if I become aware of any circumstance that would compromise my ability to attend the event or evaluate projects.

Novice Newton Awards Due Friday at 1:30 PM Encouragement awards- for projects with good creative projects, not everything is together for a place award. Elementary Level only No more than 2 from each category Category Team Decision

Middle School Principals Award Friday 12:30 PM Deadline Middle School Principals Award Applies only to Junior Division Encouragement award- for good creative projects not quite a place award 2 from each category? Category Team Decision

Pioneers of Science Due Friday at 1:30 PM Encouragement award- for good creative projects not quite a place award Elementary Level only 2 from each category? Category Team Decision

Intel International Science & Engineering Fair Award (ISEF) Due by 3:30 PM Friday Intel International Science & Engineering Fair Award (ISEF) Applies to Senior Division only 2 student & 1 Alternate to go to ISEF Must be 1st place project or 1st and 2nd from the same category Team Leaders’ Decision

Due by 3:30 PM Friday Student Observer to Intel International Science & Engineering Fair (ISEF) Team Leaders’ Decision This award should come from the Junior Division, but could come from the Senior Division if student is a freshman or sophomore Student should have a project that has won a grand award

Colorado State Science & Engineering Fair Award (CSEF) Due by 3:30 PM Friday Colorado State Science & Engineering Fair Award (CSEF) 24 Positions Must be from Junior/Senior Divisions only Normally from 1st and 2nd Places in category awards Do not send a 2nd Place over a 1st Place in the same category Team Leaders’ Decision
