UNIT 1 VOCABULARY

Alfred Wegener = Alfred Wegener proposed the theory of continental drift – the idea that Earth’s continents move. It was rejected by most other scientists of his day. It was only in the 1960s that continental drift finally became part of mainstream science.

Cartographer = Someone who makes maps

Compass Rose = A circle showing the directions on a map

Map Scale: Feature of the map that helps find distance

Key/Legend = A box on a map that shows what the symbols on a map mean.
