Should we stop using animals? Boardworks KS3 Science 2008 Biology Around Us Teacher notes The British Union for the Abolition of Vivisection (BUAV) is campaigning peacefully to create a world where nobody wants or believes we need to experiment on animals. www.buav.org

What are the laws about animal testing? Boardworks KS3 Science 2008 Biology Around Us To use animals in scientific research, organizations must apply to the government for a licence. The government will only issue a licence for the use of animals in research if there is no valid alternative that can be used. If granted a licence, laboratories must follow rules set by the government about how the animals are kept, used and killed. Photo credit: Wellcome Library, London

The future of animal testing Boardworks KS3 Science 2008 Biology Around Us Many people hope that the number of organisms used in scientific procedures can be reduced in the future. The government is also currently funding research to improve and develop alternative methods.
