Key Stage 4 Student Leadership Launch Assembly

Richmond School – Our values

We are extending our current Student Leadership Team to include Key Stage 4 students for the first time. We have a Sixth Form Student Leadership Team lead by a Head Boy and Head Girl. The successful candidates will work alongside the Sixth Form Student Leadership Team. It’s a new opportunity so the role will evolve throughout the year and YOU will have the opportunity to shape the role.

What is Student Leadership? I am looking for fantastic role-models: students whose daily conduct and attitude encompass all of the school values, students who want to make a difference and have respect and compassion for their fellow students. Student Leaders will be ambassadors for the school who will adopt a genuine role in helping to make decisions and run the school.

What are the benefits of becoming a Student Leader? You will have the opportunity to make a difference Increased confidence Fabulous employability skills Looks great on any application form – apprenticeship, job, college, sixth form, university etc Gives you something impressive to talk about in an interview Opportunities to challenge yourself

Student leaders will have a high profile around school and will be trusted to take on a range additional responsibilities such as: Showing visitors around school Taking part in student voice activities Helping at events such as open evenings, parents’ evenings and presentation evenings Organising events such as sports competitions, tutor quizzes or fund-raising events Community work Helping and mentoring younger students

Anyone can apply to be a Student Leader. We would like to appoint 20 Student Leaders. The opportunity is open to anyone, whatever your background or ability. You must be able to demonstrate your suitability by explaining how you uphold the school values. I’m looking for people who want to genuinely make a difference and contribute to the wider school community.

How do I apply? Collect an application form from Student Services or download an application form from the school website. Tutors and teachers will encourage suitable candidates to apply. Workshops will be held during tutor time – Sixth Form Leaders will be available during morning tutor to answer your questions about Student Leadership and help you complete your applications successfully. Get your form signed by one member of staff and one student who supports your application. Deadline – Monday 28th January

Shortlisting Mrs Weston will meet other senior teachers plus some Sixth Form Student Leaders to select the most suitable candidates. The selected Key Stage 4 Student Leaders will be announced in assembly.

What happens next? All student leaders will receive training from Senior Leaders in school. Student Leaders will be given some key areas of responsibility. Your period of Student Leadership will last for twelve months.
