“Dream the Possible Dream!” Nehemiah 2:11-20

…He attached his wings, found a ledge and jumped off …He attached his wings, found a ledge and jumped off. He flew down to the plane safely. The word of Hans’ efforts got out…

As good as Hans’ first choice in using the wings was, his second choice was poor…

God is greatly honored when His people dream… Nehemiah not only had a dream, but he was able to get his people to embrace that dream…

to know how to respond to dreams that are in accordance to God’s will Purpose: to know how to respond to dreams that are in accordance to God’s will

I Survey the Situation (2:11-16)

Before he took charge, Nehemiah took time to survey the situation…

I Survey the Situation (2:11-16) A. Know the Facts Before Deciding

Up to this point, everything Nehemiah had heard about the wall/Jerusalem was not firsthand accounts…

I Survey the Situation (2:11-16) A. Know the Facts Before Deciding B. Spend Time Seeking God’s Will

Those first few days were critical, because they were spent looking to confirm his dream was in total alliance with God’s will…

Busyness is not equal to spirituality… In solitude a man receives the right to lead in public…

II Dream With Others (2:17-18) A. First Words are Important

Heard of a football coach hired to coach a team that had nothing else to prove…What do you think this new coach said to the team at their first meeting?...

II Dream With Others (2:17-18) A. First Words are Important B. Identify With the Need

“We will fight on the beaches. We will fight on the landing grounds “We will fight on the beaches. We will fight on the landing grounds. We will fight in the fields and streets… We shall never surrender.”

II Dream With Others (2:17-18) A. First Words are Important B. Identify With the Need C. God is Ever Present

Christians constantly need to be reminded who they are and Whose they are!

III Be Faithful When Opposed (2:19-20) A. Make Dreams Worthy of God

If Satan is not trying to hinder our dreams, count on this, our dreams are too small!

III Be Faithful When Opposed (2:19-20) A. Make Dreams Worthy of God B. Nehemiah Considered His Critics

When Nehemiah evaluated the track record of his detractors, he became all the more galvanized…

III Be Faithful When Opposed (2:19-20) A. Make Dreams Worthy of God B. Nehemiah Considered His Critics C. Nehemiah Trusted His God

…Nehemiah said, “Our God will give us success…”

If we’re going to be a church with dreams: 1. Must realize opportunities most always are accompanied by opposition… 2. Must recognize with God all things are possible…

Summary and Conclusion: …Thus, if this church is going to be faithful, growing and serving on into the future, we’re going to have to pass on to coming generations that which is eternal. In other words, we’re going to have to help them dream the possible dream for our Lord and His Church!
