Nervous System *Parts of the Brain!

Frontal Lobe Injury In 1848 Phineas Gage, a railway construction foreman, was struck be a rod in his face The 3-foot long rod entered through his face, passed through his brain, and exited his skull. Gage survived the accident but what do you think happened to him? He suffered lasting personality and behavioral problem, some memory loss. Frontal Lobe controls: Speech Reasoning Voluntary movement

Temporal Lobe Injury People who have had a stroke can show signs of damage to the temporal lobe. If someone has a stroke, what effects can that have on brain function? Aggressive behavior Unable to comprehend language (speech) Difficulty focusing on sounds

Parietal Lobe Injury The Parietal Lobe is involved in the interpretation of sensory information. What would occur if someone had damage to this part of the brain? Unable to feel pressure, pain, or touch correctly. Drawing and writing changes

Occipital Lobe Injury What is a concussion? If someone falls or is hit on the back of their head with enough force, what effects can that have on brain function?

Occipital Lobe Injury Difficulty reading and writing Blindness or blacking out Difficulty identifying colors

Lobes of the Brain

Cerebellum Controls balance and movement

Brain Stem Controls Breathing Blood Pressure Heart Rate Involuntary Functions

Spinal Cord Sends signals from the brain to the rest of the body.
