Introductory lesson to ReflectED - KS2

Metacognition What do you know about this word? What do you think it means?

Metacognition means “thinking about thinking”

We will be having weekly metacognition lessons where will be thinking about how we learn. We will be looking at things that help us learn and why, and look at ways we can become better learners.

Coaching Motivation Visualisation Feedback Problem solving Strategizing Perseverance Making mistakes Resilience Planning Do you recognise any of these words? How do you think these things can help you to become a better learner?

Learning to reflect

What does it mean when someone says ‘I’m reflecting’? (Tip, it doesn’t involve a mirror!)

To reflect means to think deeply or carefully about something. We are going to learn how to reflect on our learning. This will help us to understand what helps us learn so we can become better learners.

After a lesson we will think deeply about what we learned that lesson and also what helped us learn We can also look at any mistakes we made and use them to help us in the future By understanding what went right and wrong in the lesson and why, we will gain a deeper understanding of our learning We will learn to set ourselves next steps, which will help us take control of our learning journey

We will use performance tag colours to help us to express how we feel about our learning

Can you think of something you feel red about Can you think of something you feel red about? It can be anything that you have no idea how to do!

Can you think of something you feel yellow about Can you think of something you feel yellow about? You understand a little bit, but you couldn’t do it without help.

Can you think of something you feel green about Can you think of something you feel green about? You can do it on your own without any help and feel confident when doing it.

Can you think of something you feel blue about Can you think of something you feel blue about? You can do it so well that you could teach someone who doesn’t know how to do it.

We will be using these colours when writing reflections about our learning. We can use them to express how we feel about our learning.

Take it in turns to share with your ReflectED partner. I think reflecting on my learning will help me become a better learner by….
