Long Beach School for Adults LBSA Program Updates for Long Beach Adult Education Public Meeting 1/12/18 Celebrations  LBSA graduated 28 High School Diploma students last June.  Received a 6 year accreditation from WASC 9/1/17.  Passed Federal Program Monitoring this December with No Findings.

Technology/Data/Facility Updated all technology on campus. Replaced over 150 desktop computers. Ordered new LCD projectors and document cameras. We are now offering the HiSET test online and have added 8 new computer stations. 40 more Chromebooks were added to our campus for a total of 120. Full time Data Clerk has been in place since 10/20/17. Student and Staff surveys will be given twice a year and the data received will drive many of our changes to our program. Replaced all LBSA classrooms with appropriate sized tables, desks, and chairs. Technology/Data/Facility

Doubled our HS Diploma program by adding another full time teacher, now serving 110 students. ESL- Added a Beginning–High class in the evenings. Hired an hourly ESL teacher for off-site classes at elementary schools now at three different sites Monday - Friday. Hired an EL Civics Coordinator to write curriculum and train teachers. HiSET Distance Learning added another hourly teacher, now serving 60 plus students. When a wait list has been created as a program fills, we have been able to add hourly teachers to start students in the program right away. We are working to reconfigure our HiSET preparation program to create more student interest and accessibility. We are looking at going to 2 days a week and focusing on two subjects at time. Hired a full time Bilingual Intermediate Office Assistant. We now have a full time Administrator and two 50% Counselors. As of December 2017 we have a LBCC Counselor that comes to campus twice a month to help transition our students to LBCC. Special Thanks to Lorraine Blowin, LBCC Head Counselor, for helping to make this a reality. Ordered new books and updated curriculum for all programs. Staff/Curriculum

Increased staff development hours from 9 hours in 16-17 to 12 hours in 17–18. Set aside funds for teachers to go to both State and National Adult Ed Conferences. Creating opportunities for hourly teachers to also attend outside Conferences and Staff Development. Bringing in Adult ED Consultants and Trainers to lead staff development and workshops. Staff Development

Community partners/Activities Holding Community Informational nights twice a year for Students and Community members. Bringing in Community Partners to make connections and provide information on available services. LBSA is a part of the EL Navigator Pilot with a budget of $32,000 to help create a seamless transition for our student and our community members to access our agencies. Pacific Gateway is the lead agency on this project. Created marketing banners, posters, flyers, mouse pads, folders, pencils, pens, and business cards to hand out at events and give to community partners for distribution. Community partners/Activities

Continue to meet with community partners and identify needed services that can be provided or shared. Work on transitioning to on-line registration for Fall 18-19 Have CASAS e-testing ready to go by Fall 2018 Add a level 5 ESL class to our program Add certificate programs which will lead to job placement or advancement. Find a way to add support for a Literacy program to meet the needs of the ESL students who do not qualify for our level 1 ESL program. Future
