10th Grade English Friday 18 Oct. 2013 AS YOU COME IN . . . Place “Strategies for Ethos, Pathos, and Logos Notes” on Your Desk Agenda: Review Rhetorical Strategies Introduce Craft Project Create Craft Projects! Homework: Finish your poster at home this weekend if needed. Posters are due at the start of class on Monday. Study for your Act III Vocab and Comprehension Test on Tuesday, 10/22.

Recalling from yesterday What are the 3 rhetorical appeals we reviewed yesterday? What is 1 strategy for an appeal to ethos? What is 1 strategy for an appeal to pathos? What is 1 strategy for an appeal to logos?

Learning Targets I can identify a rhetorical strategy in Antony’s funeral speech. I can use my Rhetorical Strategy Notes to explain why Antony’s words exhibit a rhetorical strategy. I can demonstrate I understand Antony’s quote by creating a well-thought-out, justifiable visual representation of his words.

Craft Time with Act III Rhetoric! With a Partner: Directions: With a partner, create an artistic representation of your quote/rhetorical strategy to help us visualize it. Your visual must include: Your assigned quote Label the most powerful rhetorical strategy used in the quote 1 sentence explanation of why the quote demonstrates that rhetorical strategy Example Stem: Antony’s words demonstrate ___________________ (1 rhetorical strategy) because___________________(insert strategy descriptions from notes). Please explain HOW Antony’s words show this strategy. A colorful illustration or artistic representation (Be prepared to explain your choices! They must make sense!)

Zoom Around the Room Can you summarize your quote in your own words? What rhetorical strategy did you see in your quote? Which strategies did you cite to prove that rhetorical strategy? Are there any other rhetorical strategies you could also argue are evident in your quote?

Gallery Walk Silently walk to a poster. On your purple colored Rhetorical Strategies Quote Tracking Handout, write the quote under the appropriate rhetorical strategy.
