Rules and Mindset 1. We will value one another as unique and special individuals. 2. We will not laugh at or make fun of a person's mistakes nor use sarcasm or putdowns. 3. We will use good manners, saying "please", " thank you", and "excuse me" and allow others to go first. 4. We will cheer each other to success. 5. We will help one another whenever possible. 6. We will recognize every effort and applaud it. 7. We will encourage each other to do our best. 8. We will practice virtuous living, using the Life Principals.

Conduct This year we are implementing a new online behavioral program. BLT Video Your child will be given a warning, either visual or verbal, before a conduct mark is given, unless it is a serious offense. We are meeting with administration to talk about how many marks a student can get before they are changed from a 3 to a 2, and so on.

Homework Homework will typically go home Monday-Thursday for Math and on Monday’s for Reading/Writing. Quality work and effort must be evident. It is not about getting answers right or wrong. It is about fulfilling daily responsibilities, and putting forth your best effort! If you miss a homework assignment or do not meet teachers’ standards of effort, you will be required to turn it in the next day, and you will receive a conduct mark. We are working this year to prepare your child for intermediate school where homework is given and graded as well! *Please keep in mind, your homework may look different from other classes based on your teacher or class’ needs. *Note: Please have your child bring in a set of headphones to be used for classroom activities if you have not done so already!

Grades Per TISD Math: 6 daily, 3 major Science-: 4 daily, 2 major Reading: 3 daily, 2 major Writing: 3 daily, 2 major Social Studies: 4 daily, 2 major 50 % major, 50% daily

Late Policy/Attendance If your child arrives late for school, a parent must sign him/her in at the front desk in the office any time after 8:40. Make up work for absences is expected to be returned promptly. 1 day absence = 1 day to make up work. Late Work: 1 day late (-5 points) 2 days late (-10 points) 3 days late (grade = 0)

Home Access Center Logins were sent home yesterday in your child's Wednesday folder. To view grades online, you will need a code (if you do not have a code, please see the registrar). TISD Homepage Enter ID number and password

How Can I Help at Home? Math: You can help by working to memorize multiplication facts 0-12, division will come later in the year. Reading: Please make sure that you are requiring your child to read 20 minutes each night. Research has shown vast improvement in all areas of school when they are reading.

STAAR Writing: Tuesday, April 9th Math: Monday, May 13th Reading: Tuesday, May 14th

Conferences We will be sending an email out soon with a link to sign up for conferences. There will be two nights that we will stay late for parent conferences to help work with everyone’s schedule. Monday, October 8th and Wednesday, October 10th. ELA and Math teacher will be present during the conference. We will be limiting our first conferences to 15 minute increments in order to accommodate the 42 or so families that we would like to meet with as soon as possible! ☺ We are also available to do phone conferences as well, if that will work better for your schedule!

Is your child…NEW to TISD? Are you interested in nominating your child for testing for the Gifted and Talented Program? Contact our campus GT Specialist, Kaci Dengler via email at kacidengler@tomballisd.net to nominate your child. Emails requesting testing must be received by September 7, 2018. For more information about GT testing and our program you can visit Mrs. Dengler’s website or email her. Students who have been at Wildwood or in TISD will have an opportunity for testing nominations in March 2018.

Questions? *We will post this PowerPoint presentation to our teacher webpages for easy access. *Please make sure you signed in on one of the Parent Orientation Sheets .
