Background

What is Antisocial Personality Disorder? “Sometimes called sociopathy, [it] is a mental condition in which a person consistently shows no regard for right and wrong and ignores the rights and feelings of others” (Mayo Clinic) Tendencies to antagonize, manipulate, or treat others with harsh indifference Showing no guilt or remorse for one’s behavior

Difficulties of Treatment Most people with the disorder reject treatment as they believe they do not need help Feel little sympathy for others and thus are unaffected by their actions Behavior is most prominent in early life and must be treated before it develops

Importance of Treatment Many negative complications if left untreated: spouse/child/alcohol abuse homicidal/suicidal tendencies (school shootings) gang participation

Measures intended to prevent antisocial personality disorder must begin with interventions in early childhood, before youths are at risk for developing conduct disorder. -Minddisorders.com

Application

Overview Children will care for a creature by answering moral questions ie: should you take your creature outside for fresh air? Informs child of socially correct behavior GOAL: teach child to care for another life and feel responsibility for their actions

Overview (cont.) Parents can report positive behavior and reward the kid with a coin GOAL: tokens have been proven to help with the disorder, so the immediate gratification of the coin will help with treatment Child can use the coins to level-up their creature and receive virtual prizes GOAL: associate a positive emotion with socially accepted behavior

Target Audience Parents with children displaying symptoms of the disorder Child should be aged under 15 Children in countries that value individualism of communitism

User Interface Parents: use login credentials to check on child’s progress, communicate questions with medical professionals, and complete diagnostics test for child Child: able to play game by answer questions, problem solving, and receiving tokens; color scheme is blue to prompt calm mood and decrease aggressive tendencies

Diagnostic Test Completed by parents to gauge intensity of disorder Questions compiled through research from multiple sources Example questions: Has your child been involved in multiple thefts (3+)? Does your child believe their actions have no consequences?

Feedback Portion Parents able to provide feedback/comments for the app We will be able to utilize their experiences to improve the program Room for growth of the app

Future Plans Receive input from medical professionals to improve diagnostic test Apply machine learning to program the creature to respond to the child’s texts Expand it to other psychological disorders Make it more widely available (ie: other platforms, partner with other companies)
