Imagine and Plan
On your table you have a photograph which shows one of these three issues. When you do this lesson with your children, you will probably spend sometime finding out what they already know about each topic – particularly dementia. For today’s session, we are going to assume that we have had that discussion and are moving onto the next stage of the lesson. So have a look at your photograph and for the next 10 minutes we would like you to think about and discuss all the problems you might encounter if you are either homeless, lonely or have dementia. Write your thoughts around the outside of the photo. And, then we will stop and feedback. http://cherwell.org/2016/10/18/not-wong-homelessness/

Examples of solutions Now we are going to pose the question: ‘Is there a product that we could design to solve one of these problems?’ New products generally start life as the result of someone finding a problem and trying to fix it. Once the problem has been identified then engineers try and come up with as many ideas as possible and then choose the one that will lead to the best solution – taking into consideration any budget and time constraints.

Repurposing Plastic You have a mound of plastic on your tables and various means of fixing them together. Your task this afternoon is to take the plastic and create something purposeful out of it. Prevent it from becoming a one-time use. Here are some example of what other people have done with their plastic bottles.
