Prefixes, Suffixes , and Root Words

Introduction We need your help to save Captain Underpants. He needs to get to his spaceship!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Please HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! First you need to learn what prefixes, suffixes, and Root Words are. Well ,let’s get started, don’t you want to get learning????

Suffixes Suffixes are combinations of letters or single letters that are added to the end of a base word. Suffixes can form adverbs, adjectives, verbs , and nouns. Some suffixes are able, ible, ed, er, est, and or.

Prefixes Prefixes are word parts that create a new meaning when added to the beginning of a root or base word. The prefix of different words mean a different thing on each word. For example bi- means 2 so on a bicycle it means it would have 2 wheels, but tri- means 3 so on a tricycle there would be 3 wheels. Some other examples of them are mis-,non-, pre-, re-, tri-,and un-.

Root Words Most Root Words are Greek or Latin. Knowing the meanings of common Greek or Latin roots can help you figure out the meaning of dozens of related words. Every Root Word has a meaning for example pop means people in Greek so popular means a lot of people like that person.
