Story Tell to Build Culture Presentation by Steve Moran, Senior Housing Forum Four Things That Need Rethinking

No Original Ideas Much of what we are going to work on today has been ripped off from and modified by my friend David Hutchens and his book. 2 Four Things That Need Rethinking

Stories are about creating emotions and teaching core values Telling Stories Stories are about creating emotions and teaching core values 3 Four Things That Need Rethinking

What stories should I tell? How do I tell them effectively? Questions What stories should I tell? How do I tell them effectively? 5 Four Things That Need Rethinking

Your 6 Word Story What are you an advocate for?  What are you passionate about? It may not be what you are doing at the moment. Think of a moment or event that placed you on this path. What happened? 15 Four Things That Need Rethinking

Start with a Story Vodoo Curse 16 Four Things That Need Rethinking

4 Core Stories Identity Stories - This is who we are – Often beginning stories Vision Stories - This is where we want to go as an organization Value Stories - Illustrates your core values Stories of Change or Learning – Mistakes, Victories, Lessons Learned Form Groups - A little tough with our size, but not impossible. 17 Four Things That Need Rethinking

Sourcing Stories In my organization . . . In my team or community . . . In my life . . . Who I am . . . Why I am here . . . I know what you are thinking . . . 18 Four Things That Need Rethinking

Stories Build Your Culture Take two minutes as think about a story that . . . Perfectly illustrates the culture you want to have in your organization Or 2. That represents a big culture fail. Name Story Tell the story in 5 minutes or less per person Select the one story the group most needs to hear. We will tell some stories together Mailman from minnisota story 19 Four Things That Need Rethinking

Some Additional Help As you figure out what story to tell, think in terms of what your goal is. The right story is better than a perfectly told story. Tell your group about a time you saw you’re a team member living out your ideal culture Tell your group about how your culture changed the life of a resident, a family member, team member or even a vendor. Tell your group about a time you acted in a way that did not embody your ideal culture. Who, what, when and where are for news articles not story telling. Stories have to be only mostly true. 20 Four Things That Need Rethinking
