Annotating Characters “The Crucible”

Annotation is... Recording important notes while you read!! This is called “Active Reading” Typically you would write in the book… However.. We can’t!

What to write? Questions??? Connections: Between characters, the world, other books, video games. Interpretations: What do things mean? Summary: To help you remember important things: Page numbers. Patterns: Organization in your records. (Bullets, colour, titles) Words: New words, repeated by characters.

How to Write... Cues Margin: words, page #s, ?s Main area: Ideas, notes, quotes, dates, characteristics. Bottom: Summary, do you have enough info? Final thoughts/connections.

Your task... While we are reading Act II & III annotate 2 characters. Look for details, page #s (you will need this later), characteristics, actions for examples, descriptions about them. If you want to write something, tell us to wait if you need time. Use your Cornell Notes handout, I will collect this at the end! Keep it on going...

Choose 2 Characters... John/ Elizabeth Proctor Abigail Williams John Hale Rebecca/ Francis Nurse Mary Warren Thomas/ Ann Putnam Giles/ Martha Corey
