De – can translate to “OF” or “FROM” 1. “de” can be used to show possession or relationship Ejemplos: Es el carro de Ernesto. It’s Ernesto’s car. Son los amigos de Julia. They are friends of Julia. (They are Julia’s friends.)

2. “de” can be used to indicate what TYPE OF THING you’re describing Ejemplos: Los libros de aventura: Books of adventure (adventure books) Las películas de misterio: Movies of mystery (mystery movies)

3. The word “de” is also used to say where someone is from Ejemplo: Soy de Warren. I am from Warren.

4. The preposition “de” followed by “el” makes the contraction “del”. de + el = del (of the/from the) Ejemplos: El libro del professor The professor’s book El carro del chico The boy’s car
