Welcome to Reagan High School 8th to 9th Grade Transition

How is High School Different from Middle School? Most students will not use a locker. Students are asked to be more independent and begin making decisions that impact future plans. Extracurricular activities generally require more time commitment than in middle school.

How is High School Different from Middle School? 4th 11:45-12:35 5th 12:40- 1:30 6th 1:35-2:25 Lunch is one class period (50 minutes) and assigned based upon what works best in the student’s schedule. No Lunch changes will be honored

Course Selection Process Students will receive: Course Selection Card Endorsement Sheet Instructions and assistance from Middle Schools

Attendance counts toward credit 90% rule Students will receive this from middle school counselors during registration process

The Default endorsement is Academic Four Core, which requires an additional year of Social Studies and specifies Science courses. Elective courses are not guaranteed. Colleges do not look at endorsements when considering admission Students will receive this page with the course selection card from middle school counselors.

How Do Students Select an Endorsement? Guidance from middle school counselors Students will check an area of endorsement on the course selection card Reviewed in 9th grade, changes allowed anytime*. course cards due, process at middle school selection and endorsement

What are the Curriculum Differences Between Regular, Pre-AP and AP Courses? Pre Ap / Pre Ap GT Regular AP / AP GT Covers required curriculum Builds a strong foundation Prepares students for success 20-30 minutes of homework Covers required curriculum Critical thinking, in depth topics Prepares students for AP classes 30 minutes to 1 hour of homework College level courses AP exam Daily critical reading, writing and problem solving 1 to 1 ½ hours of homework

Factors to Consider When Selecting Courses Am I prepared to put in extra time to study and attend tutoring? Is this a subject I enjoy? What other courses am I taking? What other activities am I involved in? How much sleep do you need? **Students can take only 2 AP courses before the end of 10th grade.
