Saturated fats It contributes the most to elevating blood cholesterol levels, especially LDL (the bad cholesterol). Typically saturated fat is found in animal fats origins and dairy products. > Butter > Ghee > Lard They tend to be more solid at room temperature

Unsaturated fats Unsaturated fats have less of an effect on elevating blood cholesterol levels. This, however, does not mean you can guzzle down the olive oil. Fat is still fat and you want a low total fat intake as well. Unsaturated fats are typically from plant sources. Nuts Avocado Canola Oil It tends to be liquid at room temperature. Mono-unsaturated fats may help increase HDL (the good cholesterol) The healthy one? No! the healthier one? Yeah man!

Now you knowing the types of fats, you should know what are the better ones for intake and the not so good ones which you should refrain from. We shall carry on to eating tips for lower fat eating!

Diet of reducing of fats > Vegetable oils, lard, shortening and table fats like butter, margarine, mayonnaise, and salad dressing are high fat items. So Buy less and use less > Unsaturated fats are always preferred to saturated fats for a healthier and lower fat intake. > Choose fat- reduced brands whenever you can > Bake, steam, poach or grill rather than fry or roast > Choose lean cuts of meat and trim off extra fat before cooking > Reduce the amount of baked goodies and snack items that you buy, Pretzels and popcorn are lower fat alternatives to chips, cheese flavored snacks or corn chips. > Check food labels for the fat content of the foods you buy: So what is low and what is high? Total fat High: more than 20g of fat per 100g. Low: less than 3g of fat per 100g. Saturated fat High: more than 5g saturates per 100g. Low: less than 1.5g saturates per 100g.
