Cole Porter Born June 9th, 1891 Named after his mother’s maiden name His grandfather was called “the richest man in Indiana” Began learning piano & violin and age 6

Cole Porter’s songs “Don’t Fence Me In” was a cowboy song written in 1934 for a film that was never produced Ten years later it was sung by Roy Rogers in the movie “Hollywood Canteen” “You’re the Top” was included in the 1934 musical “Anything Goes.” It is about a man and a woman who take turns complimenting each other. The lyrics are significant because they offer a glimpse as to what was highly prized in the mid-1930s, and demonstrate Porter's rhyming ability.

George M. Cohan July 3, 1878 – November 5, 1942 started his career as a child performing with his parents and sister in vaudeville as "The Four Cohans." Vaudeville – variety entertainment in US & Canada from the early 1880s until the early 1930s. Acts were separate & unrelated

Cohan’s music “Give My Regards to Broadway” was in the musical Little Johnny Jones Cohan, playing the title character, sings this song as his friend is about to sail to America, looking for evidence aboard ship that will clear his name for allegedly throwing the English Derby.

Cohan’s music “Yankee Doodle Dandy" is a patriotic song from Little Johnny Jones The musical is about a jockey named Johnny Jones who rides the horse, Yankee Doodle
