Year 7 PSHE Assembly Social media effects

Stand up if you have a mobile phone, computer or ipad…………..

Stay standing if you use any of the social media apps we have identified today……………………

Stay standing if you have whatsapp………

Sit down if you are 13 years of age…………

As of May 2018, WhatsApp's minimum age of use is 16 years old if you live in the European Union, or a country that has adopted the GDPR, as the UK has. It was previously 13 and WhatsApp has not yet said what will happen to users between 13 and 16 who already held accounts under the old terms and conditions.

Why??

Malicious communication Act (1988 sec 1) This is the wording of this section as amended by Section 43 Criminal Justice and Police Act 2001. It applies to offences committed from the 11th May 2001 onwards (1) Any person who sends to another person (a) a letter, electronic communication or article of any description which conveys (i) a message which is indecent or grossly offensive (ii) a threat or (iii) information which is false and known or believed to be false by the sender or (b) any article or electronic communication which is, in whole or part, of an indecent or grossly offensive nature,

If you stress that the age of Criminal Responsibility is 10 it might sink in a bit more…..
