The Cold War The political hostility that existed between the Soviet bloc countries and the US led Western Powers between 1945-1990.

1) Historic Animosity US had not recognized communist Soviet Union until 1933. Wilson had aided the whites in the Russian Civil War. Soviets had signed non-aggression pact with Germany.

2) Rival Ideologies United States Soviet Union Capitalist Democratic Individual Rights Communist One-Party State Needs of the State In addition both ideologies included the idea that the other ideology was attempting to destroy them.
