A Toolkit for Christian Living Faithful and Fruitful Bible Reading “Know the Author of the Bible”

1. PRAY A Prayer from Ephesians 1: “Heavenly Father, please give me your Spirit of wisdom and revelation so that I can come to know you better. Open the eyes of my heart so that I may know the hope that you called me to and the amazing inheritance I have in Christ. May this truth strengthen my faith and help me to rely on your power to live a faithful and fruitful life for your glory and the good of others”

1. PRAY A Prayer from Psalm 119: “Holy Lord everything in creation will one day pass away, but your commands are eternal and perfect. I love you and I want to obey your laws, but I am weak and often fall into sin. As I read your Word guide me and strengthen me with your Spirit, so that I can praise with a pure heart and respond to your faithfulness by offering you my life in loving obedience.”

2. READ Matthew 28:16-20 Then the eleven disciples went to Galilee, to the mountain where Jesus had told them to go. When they saw him, they worshiped him; but some doubted….

2. READ Matthew 28:16-20 continued… …Then, Jesus came to them and said, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”

3. ASK QUESTIONS Q: What does this passage reveal about God’s nature? Q: What does this passage reveal about human nature? Q: Does this passage highlight a particular sin that I need to repent of?

3. ASK QUESTIONS Q: Are there commands in this passage that I need to obey? Q: Are there promises in this passage that I need to remember and believe? Q: How does this passage point me to the truth of Christ and the Gospel?

3. ASK QUESTIONS Question: What does this passage reveal about God’s nature? Then, Jesus came to them and said, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”

3. ASK QUESTIONS Question: What does this passage reveal about human nature? Then the eleven disciples went to Galilee, to the mountain where Jesus had told them to go. When they saw him, they worshiped him; but some doubted. Then, Jesus came to them and said, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Therefore go and make disciples of all nations…

3. ASK QUESTIONS Question: Does this passage highlight a sin that I need to repent of? Luke 9:25-26 What good is it for someone to gain the whole world, and yet lose or forfeit their very self? Whoever is ashamed of me and my words, the Son of Man will be ashamed of them when he comes in his glory and in the glory of the Father and of the holy angels.

3. ASK QUESTIONS Question: Are there commands in this passage that I need to obey? Then, Jesus came to them and said, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”

3. ASK QUESTIONS Question: Are there promises that I need to believe and remember? Then, Jesus came to them and said, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”

3. ASK QUESTIONS Question: How does this passage point me to Christ and the Good News of the Gospel? Then, Jesus came to them and said, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”

4. MAKE NOTES Jesus has all authority in heaven and on earth! I can stop worrying whether or not he will actually do what he said he would do. After everything that the disciples had seen and heard why did they still doubt? I need to pray for (name a friend, family, co-worker, neighbour) and look for a chance to share the Gospel with them. God will never leave me or forget about me.
