One child policy: 1979 – Present China How many people are in your family? Do you have any brothers, sisters or cousins? One child policy: 1979 – Present It is the world’s best-known population policy introduced to limit population growth. People were only allowed to have one child or face heavy fines, lose their jobs or lose their homes.
