SYRIAN CIVIL WAR.
Presentation transcript:

syrian refugee crisis 09/25/15

when did the crisis start? Rebel demonstrations against the strong government regime in Syria started in March 2011 When the government cracked down onto these peaceful protests, things became violent By July, Syria was split into groups for a full-blown Civil War

what is happening to syria now? Over 220,000 people have been killed Half of these people were civilians Food and medical care is scarce 7.6 million Syrians are internally displaced More than half of the population

how are they escaping? Thousands flee Syria every day, motivated by bombings and deaths of friends The risks of fleeing can be as high as staying Families walk for miles, hiding from snipers or soldiers who will kidnap men to fight in the war

where are they going?

what is america doing? The USA has taken in only about 1,000 Syrians out of the 4 million refugees More than 3 million refugees have fled to Lebanon, where there is weak infrastructure and limited resources There is large debate over whether America should take in more refugees
