Integrating TS 16949 Requirements

What Is This All About? TS 16949 is a customer requirement of Ford, GM and Chrysler. It is not a ‘specification’. If you want to do business with QM, Ford and/or Chrysler, you must comply with their requirements.

Compliance Basics Auditors are Not Always Knowledgeable! It’s Your Company and Your Systems! Don’t Try to Imitate Reference Manuals! Review Your Systems with Consideration to Appropriate Reference manuals. If You Can’t Explain Your Systems with Consideration to QS9000 Requirements, You Have Serious Problems.

Compliance Basics II If You Don’t Have a Close Relationship with Your Customer’s Supplier QA, You Could Have Serious Problems. You must maintain a Close Relationship with your registrar. When you have an interpretation question, CALL THEM and ask what their interpretation is! You’re paying them a lot of money to to audit your company.

Lessons Learned TS 16949 is NOT Rocket Science. If you know your job and the systems which affect you, you should have no problem with an audit (assuming compliant systems). You must also be up-to-date on technology and methodologies which affect your job and systems

APQP Phases Phase 1: Plan & Define Program Phase 2: Product Design & Development Verification Phase 3: Process Design & Development Verification Phase 4: Product & Process Validation Phase 5: Feedback Assessment & Corrective Action

Determine Requirements!!! Are you married to your customer contact?

APQP Is... AIAG APQP & Ctrl Plan Reference Guide, Page 5 A structured method of defining the steps (process) necessary to assure that a product satisfies the customer The goal of APQP is to facilitate communication with everyone involved to ensure that all required steps are completed on time.

Integration MSA PPAP FMEA/CP SPC

Do NOT Under Estimate the Importance of Timing! Timing Plan Depends upon Product complexity Customer expectations Team plan for Training Event Action Framework for tracking Basis for status reporting Prepare a timing chart using available project or similar software Do NOT Under Estimate the Importance of Timing!

Timing Plan Contents Identify individual tasks Track resources by task Establishes dependencies between tasks Determine critical path Track specific tasks or groups of tasks Status reports
