Understand the importance of security as a key NCD enabler Consider application and desktop virtualization to support these elements through infrastructure After security policies and systems are in place to control NCDs, enable users by: Ensuring alignment of development efforts with app delivery mechanisms Minimizing support challenges through device- agnostic app delivery Focusing on expanding the portfolio of applications available on NCDs. If the Apps Dev pipeline is full, app and desktop virtualization could expedite app delivery without development work. Prioritize for success All five of these factors are critical to NCD management success. Put security systems and policies in place first. Follow with a focus on applications and device support policies to extend the value of NCDs in the workplace. Info-Tech Insight 42 Relative Impact on NCD Success 30 15 Security systems enforce NCDs policies Security policies match NCDs policies App Dev policies match NCDs policies End user support policies match NCDs policies 14 Critical Apps are available on for use on NCDs Source: Info-Tech Research Group, n = 126 NOTE: Each bar represents a statistical estimate of the strength of the correlation between each policy on NCD management success. InfoTech surveys show that NCD management success requires both policy and technical controls Security systems are the most important success factor, but those depend on alignment with both policies and enforcement/auditing procedures to be effective.

Invest the time to ensure adequate budget for NCDs success A Device Management Success Score was defined as the average agreement with each of the following statements: Expected business value is being delivered Security/compliance requirements are being met Ongoing service delivery costs are within the planned budget System availability targets are being maintained A survey of Info-Tech clients shows that NCD management success was based on the policies, enforcement and budget. Ensure that you spend your time on establishing the necessary infrastructure technologies for NCD management for your organization. What is NCD Success? Adequate Budget Strongly Agree Strongly Disagree Device Management Success Budget is the second largest predictor of NCDs management success My current budget is adequate Source: Info-Tech Research Group, n = 178 NCDs are an organizational problem. Understand the business value of NCDs through clear communication with the CIO. Use this to shape the budget requests for capital expenditures such as security and virtualization, and recognize opportunities to maximize IT value while transforming your infrastructure.
