Deborah “Now Deborah, a prophetess, the wife of Lappidoth, was judging Israel at that time…She sent and summoned Barak the son of Abinoam from Kedesh-naphtali and said to him ‘Has not the Lord, the God of Israel, commanded you, ‘Go gather your men at Mount Tabor, taking 10,000 from from the people of Naphtali and the people of Zebulin. And I will draw out Sisera, the general of Jabin’s army, to meet you by the river Kishon with his chariots and his troops, and I will give him into your hand?’” Judges 4:4, 6-7

Deborah “The kings came, they fought; then fought the kings of Canaan, at Taanach, by the waters of Megiddo; they got no spoils of silver. From heaven the stars fought, from their courses they fought against Sisera. The torrent of Kishon swept them away; the ancient torrent, the torrent Kishon. March on, my soul, with might!” Judges 5:19-21

Jael “And he said to her ‘Stand at the opening of the tent, and if any man comes and asks you ‘is anyone here?’ say ‘no.’ But Jael, the wife of Heber took a tent peg, and took a hammer in her hand. Then she went softly to him and drove the peg into his temple until it went down into the ground while he was lying fast asleep from weariness. So he died.” Judges 4:20-21

Joab “When Joab came out from David’s presence, he sent messengers after Abner and they brought him back from the cistern of Sirah. But David did not know about it. And when Abner returned to Hebron Joab took him aside into the midst of the gate to speak with him privately, and there he struck him in the stomach so that he died, for the blood of Asahel his brother.” 2 Samuel 3:26-27 “And the king ordered Joab and Abishai and Ittai ‘Deal gently for my sake with the young man Absalom.” 2 Samuel 18:5

Joab “And Absalom happened to meet the servants of David. Absalom was riding on his mule, and the mule went under the thick branches of a great oak, and his head caught fast in the oak, and he was suspended between heaven and earth, while the mule that was under him went on.” 2 Samuel 18:9

Paul “But Saul, still breathing threats and murder against the disciples of the Lord, went to the high priest and asked him for letters to the synagogues at Damascus, so that if he found any belonging to the Way, men or women, he might bring them bound to Jerusalem.” Acts 9:1-2

Paul “I have become all things to all people, that by all means I might save some.  I do it all for the sake of the gospel, that I may share with them in its blessings.” 1 Corinthians 9:22-23

Paul . “…I have great sorrow and unceasing anguish in my heart. For I could wish that I myself were accursed and cut off from Christ for the sake of my brothers, my kinsmen according to the flesh.” Romans 9:2-3

“So to keep me from becoming conceited because of the surpassing greatness of the revelations, a thorn was given me in the flesh, a messenger of Satan to harass me, to keep me from becoming conceited. Three times I pleaded with the Lord about this, that it should leave me. But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore I will boast all the more gladly of my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ may rest upon me. For the sake of Christ, then, I am content with weaknesses, insults, hardships, persecutions, and calamities. For when I am weak, then I am strong.” 2 Corinthians 12:7-10
