Room 15 News & Notes September 10 – 14, 2018 Mrs. Nakamura hnakamura@slusd.us https://www.sanleandro.k12.ca.us/Domain/109 (Go to Teacher Pages) Back to School Night is this Thursday. Please attend! This will be an opportunity for you to be inside the classroom, and hear about what we will be learning this school year. If possible, adults only! If you bring your child, he/she will need to be quiet. Please also be aware that it’s an early dismissal day. Thank you for the donations thus far to our classroom: tissue, copy paper, hand sanitizer, and noise-cancelling earmuffs! We truly appreciate it! Some of the students are having trouble counting by 100s and 10s from a given 3-digit number. For example, “Count by 100s from 420.” (It should be 520, 620, 720, etc). Please practice at home! MATH: We continue place value, learning to see and write three-digit numbers (like 324) in unit form (3 hundreds, 2 tens, and 4 ones), standard form (324), expanded form (300+20+4), and word form (three hundred and twenty-four). We will also be using fake $1, $10, and $100 bills to practice counting. ELA: Comprehension skill: character, setting, events. We will read and finish up the story “Help!” to find key details in the story to help us understand and summarize the story. We will then move on to reading “Maria Celebrates Brazil”. We will discuss how families are the same and different around the world. We will take notes on the character, setting, and events in the story. Sight Words: little, how, could, find, one Vocabulary Words (in the stories): aside, culture, fair, invited, language, plead, scurries, share Word Work: Plurals (-s, -es; busbuses) BACK TO SCHOOL NIGHT will be on Thurs., Sept. 13th. This will also be an early dismissal day @ 1:50pm. SCHOLASTIC BOOK FAIR will be from Sept. 10-14th in the library. Children may bring money to school to buy books. PICTURE DAY will be on Wed., Oct. 3rd. Say cheese! SCHOOL BEAUTIFICATION DAY will be on Sat., Oct. 6th. Come out and help us clean up the school! SCHOOL CARNIVAL will be on Sat., Oct. 27th.
