Co-ordinates Objective: to write the co-ordinates of a point, to multiply co-ordinates by a scalar, to plot co-ordinates on a graph.

Co-ordinates Co-ordinates identify a point in a space.   y Co-ordinates identify a point in a space. Co-ordinates are given as (x,y). The horizontal value then the vertical value. To remember this, you have to walk along the hall before you can climb the stairs. What are the co-ordinates of the points a, b, c, d and e on the chart? a=(2,1), b=(2,6), c=(5,4) d=(7,7), e=(8,3) 9 8 d 7 6 b 5 4 c 3 e 2 1 a x 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9

Co-ordinates and enlargements   y What are the co-ordinates of this shape? Fill in the first two empty columns of the table. Now multiply your values by 3 and complete the rest of the table. Plot your new points on the graph and draw the enlarged shape. 9 8 point (x y) 3 times a b c d 7 6 5 4 b 3 2 c 1 a d x 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9

Question 1:   y What are the co-ordinates of this shape? Fill in the first two empty columns of the table. Now multiply your values by 2 and complete the rest of the table. Plot your new points on the graph and draw the enlarged shape. 9 8 point (x y) 2 times a b c d 7 6 b 5 4 c 3 2 1 a d x 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9

Question 2: y 9 8 7 6 c 5 b 4 3 d 2 e 1 a x 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 point (x   y What are the co-ordinates of this shape? Fill in the first two empty columns of the table. Now multiply your values by 2 and complete the rest of the table. Plot your new points on the graph and draw the enlarged shape. 9 point (x y) 2 times a b c d e 8 7 6 c 5 b 4 3 d 2 e 1 a x 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9

Question 3: y 9 8 7 6 c 5 4 3 e 2 b d 1 a x 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 point (x   y What are the co-ordinates of this shape? Fill in the first two empty columns of the table. Now multiply your values by 2 and complete the rest of the table. Co-ordinate codes   y Each letter can be represented by a set of co-ordinates. Decode this phrase: (3,1)(3,4)(1,5)(5,2) / (4,5)(5,3) / (4,2)(5,5)(1,5) / (3,3)(5,3)(4,3)(4,2)(5,2)(5,5)(3,2)(4,2) / (5,5)(1,5)(5,2) / (1,4)(5,3)(3,2) / (4,5)(4,4)(4,3)(4,3)(5,5)(3,2)? (1,4)(4,4)(4,2)(3,4) / (1,5)(4,3)(4,5) / (4,2)(3,4)(4,4)(1,2)(4,2)!
