Secure Testing Environment Provide visual barriers or adequate spacing between students Ensure no student can be distracted by another’s test Generally considered to be about 4 feet between each student Student seating in rows Comfortable writing/working surface

Secure Testing Environment For all DeSSA assessments … General rule is no instructional materials, for any content area, during testing (even for content areas outside of the area being tested) Encouraging materials may remain posted To prevent misinterpretation of what is “encouraging,” DOE recommends removing everything.   However, if a school wishes to have encouraging posters, the examples below would be acceptable.   poster of classroom expectations or the school pledge a welcome sign near the door “mindfulness” posters

Student Coaching Providing a student with any type of assistance that may affect how a student responds Includes both verbal and nonverbal cues Examples: Interpreting, explaining, or paraphrasing the test items or prompts Asking students to re-consider a particular response Leading students through instructional strategies Requiring students to show their work

Personally Identifiable Information (PII) Security begins with protecting a student’s unique identify information, known as PII. School personnel may not share or transfer PII with anyone by email, in any electronic device, or in any other documents, either internally or to outside agencies. This includes sending a student’s state ID code through email. Test administrators may not share a student’s accommodations or PII on a screen in a classroom visible to other testing students. These actions are test security incidents reportable to the Department of Education.

Sharing DeSSA Scores with Students No student scores should be written down or posted (such as in Home Access or Schoology). No data should be printed and shared with the public. Scores should only be shared verbally since the scores are embargoed and considered preliminary until mid-August. Educators may use the following language to VERBALLY share DeSSA scores with students: Congratulations your preliminary test results show you (met your goal, scored a 3 or 4). Your final scores will be mailed to you this summer. We are proud of you. Districts may create their own policy to embody the above language or further restrict the sharing of scores.

Test Process/Procdures/Security Issues Test Administrators should: Contact Test Coordinator or Building Administrator Provide a written statement about what happened (email is fine) If an interview is needed, test administrators will be notified DOE’s Test Security Manual https://de.portal.airast.org/core/fileparse.php/2667/urlt/DeSSA-Test-Security-Manual-11-28-18.pdf

Test ITEM issues Use IF you have a concern about the functionality or content of a test question. Your STC will get this information to the test vendor. These are not for student level issues or for issues the district or state needs to act upon.
