2. Registered Architect 2.1 Qualification to enter license exam Practical experience: Min. three years in Architect’s office after graduation of accredited 5 yrs. programs with some exceptions. Academic requirement: Min. 8 Semester completion in accredited 5 year program Others: A person who has min. 5 years of practical experience in architect’s office or who passed preliminary exam for architect’s license 2.2 Acquisition of License As per pass of Professional Qualification Examination, MLIT will issue license. 2.3 Registration to KARB Min. 40 hours of CPD is required to renewal at every 5 year terms. Note: 5hours Ethic education is compulsory.

Major Activities 5.1 The Framework Act on Architecture Legislated in December, 2007 To enhance quality of life in terms of safety and living environment by identifying obligations of each party involves in Architectural design. The first legislation to perceive architecture as a part of culture. Major outputs: National Architecture Policy Commission National Architecture Policy Commission Established in December 2008 Vision: Beautiful land, Comfortable living space Objectives: Create a noble living space Build for green growth Build for creative architectural culture

5. Major Activities 5.2 Korean Architect Registration Board (KARB) KARB(Korea Architects Registration Board) manages candidates’ professional development career, registration and renewal of licensed architects, and CPD program for registered architects, all of which is mandated to KIRA in accordance with Architects’ Act KARB’s role is to manage the entire qualification process of architects from practical training of candidates to professional activities after getting registered 5.3 Standard Design Contract Agreement Form To analyze type of domestic and foreign contracts To research existing domestic and foreign design contracts To research current design contracts and dispute cases To develop standard design contract agreement form of architectural design services in various types of contract and examine how to execute to all contracts

Major Activities 5.4 Architecture Service Industry Promotion Act Proclamation : June 4, 2013 Enforcement : June 5, 2014 To increase architectural design competition for public projects To foster emerging young architects To apply approved standard contract form for fair business To protect the Architectural Profession through the national and local governments To promote the standardization for design information system, design guideline and procurement system as a basis design service To protect intellectual property rights of architectural design and new technology, and erect, implement the standard of design contract To simplify Procurement system and enforcement of architects privilege Establishment of Architecture Promotion Agency To support tax benefit for architectural service industry

6. International Activities 6.1 UIA 2017 SEOUL UIA 2017 SEOUL will promote various innovative architectural techniques and technologies Among member sections and global citizens. Diverse academic programs, exhibitions, competitions, student activities, and public outreach programs will simultaneously take place. Date : 3 – 10 September, 2017 Venue : COEX and DDP 6.2 The 20th Korea China Japan Registered Architects Organizations Meeting Korea Institute of Registered Architects, KIRA, National Administration Board of Architectural Registration of P.R.C, NABAR and Japan Federation of Architects and Building Engineers Associations, JFABEA delegates have annual meetings for three countries’ architectural culture and profession. Date : 1 – 4 November, 2017 Venue : Daegu, Korea Participants : KIRA, NABAR and JFABEA Delegates

6. International Activities 6.3 APEC Architects Project History Oct. 2005 : MLTM entrust KIRA Oct. 2005 : KIRA organized Monitoring Committee Dec. 2005 : Commenced registration work Jan. 2006 : Launched APEC Architect Project in Korea Oct. 2012 : Central Council Meeting, Wellington. New Zealand Oct. 2016 : Central Council Meeting, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia Committee : Chair SHIM, Jae Ho, 5 members and 2 advisors Members : Approx. 129 APEC Architects will be registered by June, 2017. MOU in progress with other member Economics: None

7. Other Activities 7.1 Seoul International Architecture Film Festival Annual event to enhance public awareness of architecture. Period : 4 September – 17 November, 2017 Venue : Art House MOMO at Ehwa Woman's University, Seoul Seoul Museum of History, Seoul Mapo Cultural Depot Park, Seoul COEX, Seoul Event : Architectural Forum and Dialogued with the Public 7.2 Publications Newspaper, “건축문화신문(Architectural Culture News)”, in every other weeks from 2006 Monthly magazine, “건축사(Architect)” since 1966 and 11,000 copies are distributed to KIRA members and public organizations.

7. Other Activities 7.3 Exhibition: 2017 Korea Architecture Fair and Festival (KAFF) Period : 15 – 18 November, 2017 (4 days) Venue : Hall B COEX, Seoul Expected Participants vs. 2016 KAFF - 200 Companies with Approx. 300 booths - Number of Visitors : 32,000 including Architects.

7. Other Activities 7.4 2017 Korean Architecture Award Time : 7 November, 2017 Venue : Grand Hall, KIRA Headquarters Established in 1994 Hosted by MOLIT and KIRA Goals : To encourage architects, clients and contractors for better architectural environments The highest architectural award in Korea with Presidential awards in 4 Categories Category : Completed Building / Planning & Design for Architects and students

7. Other Activities 7.5 Korea Emerging Architects (EA) Award Under the sponsorship of MOLIT, KIRA organizes Korea Emerging Architects Award to promote their entry to the market. It is open to all architects who are less than 10 years from being qualified and have more than 1 complete work. Ceremony : 7 November, 2017 Venue : Grand Ball Room , KIRA HQs EA means an Architect under 45years old MOLIT bestows the Award, publishes the Anthology and hosts an exhibition of publicity and promotional support businesses.

8. Corporate Social Responsibility(CSR) 8.1 Kwarara Tumaini Secondary School & Media Education Center As the first CSR project of KIRA, the 100th Hope School in Zanzibar were constructed by KIRA, SBS(Broadcasting Company in Korea), Good Neighbors(NGO in Korea) and KOICA(Government-funded agency for ODA). For the motto, ‘Architecture over Share’, not only KIRA simply shared Korean architectural technology and knowledge for those who suffer from poverty and have difficulties in better education, but also we aim to understand local architecture and make people live in full of happiness through the project.
