While people were exploring and colonizing the world and making advancements in science, people were also questioning government and the absolute monarchs that ruled in Europe. This is when the Enlightenment Thinkers started.

What is the Age of Enlightenment? Enlightenment – The period in the 1700s in which people rejected traditional ideas and supported a belief in human reason. Enlightenment—new way of learning about world; called Age of Reason.

What is the Age of Enlightenment?   The Age of Enlightenment developed from the Scientific Revolution of the 16th and 17th centuries. A new focus on reasoning was used to understand social, political and economic institutions.

The thinkers of the Enlightenment, influenced by the scientific revolutions of the previous century, believed in shedding the light of science and reason on the world in order to question traditional ideas and ways of doing things.
