Harmonisation of limits Chapter 2 Harmonisation of limits

Limits for small estimates Limit (threshold) A  figures below this limit are replaced by a dot (.) and flagged as extremely unreliable Limit (threshold) B  figures between A and B limit are flagged as values with reduced reliability

Examples of current limits Country A limit B limit Danmark 2 000 3 500 France 3 500 8 500 Česká rep. 700 - Lietuva 4 000 7 500 Ireland 2 500 4 500

Harmonisation of limits for small estimates Working group “Employment statistics” (September 2004) Countries asked to calculate limits corresponding to five relative standard errors (10 %, 15 %, 20 %, 25 % and 30 %) Results are expected by the end of November Eurostat and NSIs have to agree on a level for harmonised limits Our suggestions for limits at the regional level are: A limit: 25 % or 30 % B limit: 20 -25 % Suggestion for limits at regional level from countries?

Numbers of EU-25 regions with figures below current limit A Unemployed persons (total): NUTS level 2 1-2 % for 1999-2003  3-5 regions NUTS level 3 35 % for 2001  i.e. 394 EU-25 NUTS 3 regions (1214 NUTS 3 regions altogether), including 318 German regions (439 German regions altogether) 11 % NUTS 3 regions below limit A without German regions

Numbers of EU-25 regions with figures below current limit A Employed (total) NUTS 2 0 regions Economically active population (total) NUTS 3

Chapter 3 NUTS level 3 data

NUTS level 3 data Three main variables One derived variable (Data down to NUTS 2 = compiled on the basis of the LFS) Three main variables Unemployed persons (sex, age: 15-24; 25 and over) Economically active population (sex, age: 15-24; 25 and over) Unemployment rate (sex, age: 15-24; 25 and over) One derived variable Dispersion of regional (NUTS levels 2 and 3) unemployment rates – 2 values per country

Method of computing NUTS 3 data 1) EUROSTAT receives absolute economically active population and unemployment data from countries broken down by sex and age (15-24, 25 and over)

Preferences Preference list for the source of economically active population NUTS level 3 1. LFS annual average 2. LFS three-year average 3. reliable register results – annual average 4. other reliable source – annual average Preference list for the source of unemployment NUTS level 3 data 2. registered unemployment  annual average 3. LFS three-year average

Method of computing NUTS 3 data 2) LFS level 2 absolute data is divided between NUTS level 3 regions according to the distribution of NUTS level 3 absolute figures provided by countries 3) Unemployment rates calculated by program
