The Extravagant Sacrifice

A thief comes only to ________ and ________ and ________ A thief comes only to ________ and ________ and ________ . I have come so that they may have ________ and have it in ________ . John 10:10 CSB

But Christ has appeared as a high priest of the good things that have come. In the greater and more perfect tabernacle not made with hands (that is, not of this creation), he entered the most holy place once for all time, not by the blood of goats and calves, but by his own blood, having obtained eternal redemption…

…For if the blood of goats and bulls and the ashes of a young cow, sprinkling those who are defiled, sanctify for the purification of the flesh, how much more will the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered himself without blemish to God, cleanse our consciences from dead works so that we can serve the living God? Hebrews 9:11–14 CSB

Jesus’ sacrifice is completely superior and completely sufficient.

Jesus’ sacrifice is superior because his sacrifice was once for all time. (Hebrews 9:11-12)

But Christ has appeared as a high priest of the good things that have come. In the greater and more perfect tabernacle not made with hands (that is, not of this creation), he entered the most holy place once for all time, not by the blood of goats and calves, but by his own blood, having obtained eternal redemption… Hebrews 9:11-12 CSB

Jesus’ sacrifice is greater because he offered himself. (Hebrews 9:14)

how much more will the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered himself without blemish to God, cleanse our consciences from dead works so that we can serve the living God? Hebrews 9:14 CSB

“Father, if you are willing, take this cup away from me—nevertheless, not my will, but yours, be done.” Luke 22:42 CSB

And at three Jesus cried out with a loud voice, “Eloi, Eloi, lemá sabachtháni?” which is translated, “My God, my God, why have you abandoned me?” Mark 15:34 CSB

Jesus’ sacrifice is greater because he provides internal cleansing Jesus’ sacrifice is greater because he provides internal cleansing. (Hebrews 9:14)

how much more will the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered himself without blemish to God, cleanse our consciences from dead works so that we can serve the living God? Hebrews 9:14 CSB

Any religious act that you think will gain you merit with God is a dead work.

“Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only the one who does the will of my Father in heaven. Matthews 7:21 CSB

Jesus’ sacrifice is greater because he frees us to serve God Jesus’ sacrifice is greater because he frees us to serve God. (Hebrews 9:14)
