Presentation transcript:

A Day in the Life of Dairy Cows By: Morgan Cornelius

5:30 A.M. Cows are herded into a barn to be funneled into a milking parlor. After the cows enter the parlor they are sanitized with iodine or a clorox and water mix. When the cow has been properly sanitized the milker is placed on the teats of the cow. After all the milk has been retrieved from the cow the teats are covered in another iodine solution or clorox. She then exits the barn and heads to the watering trough or the feed bunk.

7:00 A.M. All cows have successfully been milked and are at the feed bunk, at the watering troughs, laying down, or socializing.

8:00 A.M. Breakfast time! Fresh feed, made up of cornsilage, hayalge, sorghum silage, hay, QLF, bean meal, and corn meal (aka TMR), is put in the feed bunk and all the cows gather around to eat.

8:00 A.M. - 4:30 P.M. Cows pass the time eating, drinking, sleeping, and socializing until it is time to be milked again.

4:30 P.M. The cows are herded back into the barn where they are held until they are milked. And the process that they undergo in the morning happens again.

7:00 P.M. The milking is complete and the cows resume their eating, sleeping, drinking, and socializing until the next morning when they are milked again.
